In a different moment, when things felt safer, Scotty probably would have lightly teased Kiley for how heavily she was breathing. He'd probably call her girlie and offer to carry her the rest of the way. As it was, his heart was pounding, and he hated that it wasn't just the running that was doing it.
He nodded a little, also looking over the lodge, expecting movement, but finding it too dark inside to find any. He turned to look back in the direction they'd come from. Still nothing there. "Power's probably out," he grunted, then looked to Kiley. It was probably still safer inside than it was out here, so he gestured for her to follow, this time just walking, though still fairly quickly. "Lights have never attracted them before. We've got lights on all the time," he pointed out, instantly frowning when he realized that he'd already chided Kiley for her negative outlook, and now he was adding to it. "Maybe we are the first ones here," he said, changing his tune. "Maybe we've gotta be the ones to get the lights on. C'mon. You okay? Feelin' good? That was some good running."
