Scotty took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves a little, though he wasn't sure it was working. He couldn't help but keep looking around them, expecting to find something running out of the woods, but he couldn't hear some of the things that they'd heard last time. The scratching sounds they made were absent, and it wasn't screaming again, so maybe they weren't as close as he thought? "Okay. Yeah. Okay, we stay low, keep moving, that's good. And then we run for the trees or the house, whatever's closer, if that thing comes out. I think that's good. I think that works." He didn't sound convinced, but it was at least a plan.
He stayed crouched as he tried to move Kiley in front of him, like maybe he could protect her if he brought up the rear. That was probably dumb, considering they hadn't gained any weapons on their walk, but she was still the girl. "Do you hear anything?" he whispered. "I should have been paying closer fucking attention, to get it's direction, fuck."
