Kiley wanted to save the sprinting for potential monster appearances. It would be dumb to push herself into doubling over so quick, not to mention she didn't want Scotty trying to be some kind of macho hero by trying to carry her. As stubborn as she could be that her way was the right way, Kiley still tried to match Scotty's pace and breathing, just so she could do this without being a complete embarrassment. If she had a cigarette, everything would be so much easier.
"No, they don't," Kiley said, panting softly. "We don't know where they all woke up. Some of them might have been able to walk back without a problem, right? Or they're farther away and just trying to find some kind of shelter because they know they won't make it back before those things cmoe out. Fuck, I hate running."
