Who: Harper and Kiley When: morning Where: where else? the woods
It was too many words for first thing in the morning, and for at least ten minutes all Harper could seem to do was sit amidst grass, leaves and fallen branches and boggle at the jumpsuit she was wearing. She kept looking from the phone to the tree-obscured sky back to the phone to the fasteners on her camo suit. Finally she forced herself to concentrate for long enough to fully read and take in the fairly long message that was waiting for her. She already knew these kinds of things happened here, but she felt mildly panicky now that she was in the midst of such an event. She'd never played paintball, had never shot any type of gun and wasn't sure she wanted to. But... it said there were drones that would prevent her from just hiding somewhere.
"I don't like this," she mumbled, as quietly as if she feared being overheard. Could she even figure out how to work the gun? She was used to gentler pursuits like gardening, reading, studying, crocheting.
A sound from several yards away got her to her feet, and she hastily put on the goggles that had been provided and took her gun out, wanting to be ready for anything. Maybe it hadn't been a person approaching anyway. There were all kinds of noises out in the woods. Swallowing nervously, Harper moved forward, trying to keep her sneakered feet from making noise in the fallen leaves.
