Who: Owen and Scotty When: Morning Where: Heading to Marker 7
In all honesty, and probably to the surprise of no one, Owen would have preferred to head out to the lantern marker on his own. Or at least with someone who would understand he liked silence and wouldn't try to talk much. The last time he'd had to travel far, it had been with Pam, who... he found he could tolerate. She wasn't obnoxious and her heart was always, probably, in the right place.
Owen realized he didn't know much about Scotty beyond the obvious to form a real opinion on the kid. He was Simms's son, which was unfortunate, and he seemed to have been in a deep place of denial about the kind of man his dad was, but... he was also young. And if they were going to be walking together today, Owen knew he was going to have to take some coffee with him and try to tap into a deep well of patience.
Simply wanting to be prepared, Owen filled a pack with one of the "monster"-safe tents and some first aid things that might come in handy. He was hoping not to be out all day to the point where they'd have to sleep outside, but this was Rustic-Zenith and shit happened. He just wanted to be prepared for it when and if it did.
"You got everything you need?" Owen asked as they headed out. Better to ask now than to be miles ahead and realize they were missing something essential.
