Marco was weirdly excited. Not so much about the actual walk, which would be long and probably painful. The walking would be rough. But also, it'd be fun. He was excited. He and Lennon, at least he felt, had had a rough patch for a little there, one that he blamed on himself with his bad mental state, and on whoever had done the whole Hathaway/Murderer thing that had set him back a few weeks. Lennon had gone off and become better friends with his other group in that time, which made sense. In the time after, when he was still getting his footing back from his episode, Marco had given Lennon space. He'd felt like things were awkward. The drug relapse hadn't helped. But in the time since, Lennon had come back into his life in a way that Marco really appreciated. Maybe he was just less paranoid now, but he didn't find himself wondering if he and Lennon were still friends anymore. They were. Zenith was a nightmare, but it was nice to finally have friends who didn't cut him out for being difficult.
Just as exciting was the surprise of being invited to this outing by Felix, who he'd hardly interacted with in their entire time there together. Apparently he'd made a good enough impression the day before. Felix could have just taken Lennon and flirted their way into finding the lanterns, but they'd elected to take him along. His relationships with people were getting better, but he still always expected to be placed with Oliver if he didn't just volunteer himself into other groups. It felt good to be wanted somewhere else. Especially when Oliver hadn't asked him to go along with his group.
He'd tried to pack things that made sense for the trip. Lucy had let him borrow the tent that she'd tucked away, and he'd found a way to tie his float to his bag so that he wouldn't have to have it around his waist or shoulders for the whole trip. He felt like having it strapped to his back gave him a knock-off Captain America look, if Cap's shield was made of thick rubber. He brought a change of clothes, and food and water, and a towel, and he hoped that someone else had brought along a first aid kit. He'd tried to get a portable phone charger out of the soda machine like Felix had gotten the day before, but instead had gotten a can full of loose cigarettes and a lighter, and had to say Magic Lightbulb instead of the word Lantern for the rest of the day. He wasn't upset about it, and he'd brought the can with him.
"What do you guys think is out there?" he wondered as they walked. "Because Oliver ended up at a place last time we all went out, but you and me ended up in nature, so... I don't know. Could be anything. Right?"
