"Thanks," Oliver grunted as Tobias took the pack, then shifted as Chase moved into position to take the guitar case. "I'm gonna pass your phone off to you too, just in case this landin' doesn't go smooth. No reason to risk breakin' that in addition to my ass."
Chase nodded as he sat the guitar case down, then reached up as Oliver pulled his phone out of his pocket, carefully tossing it down as the distance was too high for it to be handed off properly.
It took some careful maneuvering, but Oliver finally managed to get himself hanging down from the bottom rung, the muscles in his arms shuddering, swearing a little under his breath as he realized that the distance a little more than he'd expected. He knew he couldn't be much more than foot or two from the ground, but it wasn't that often that height was a problem for him. Landing hurt, not only the soles of his feet, but it sent jolts of pain from his ankles to his thighs. Nothing popped or broke, just the painful twinges of a body that hadn't really been prepared for the drop.
He didn't want to go down, but it was like his body had decided that it had powered though enough for the day and it was time to take a break. He didn't even realize he was shifting into a sitting position until he looked up to see that Chase and Tobias were above him. But damn, sitting felt good. "Did I say thank you?" he asked, his voice giving way to the quickly encroaching exhaustion. "Cause thank you. How big a pain in the ass was the walk here?"
