The mention of the creatures made Chase freeze up, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end. It took him a second for his brain to kick back in, immediately looking to the posts holding the tower up to look for scratch marks, or anything on the ground. Nothing.
"I...don't think so," he managed after a second, crouching to start dumping the contents of his pack out, though carefully settling Kiley's spare clothes where they wouldn't get dirty. "No scratch marks. And the tower has too many windows. They don't like light." Please let them not like light, he added mentally. "If I toss this up to you do you think you can catch it? I'm gonna put my phone in there so you can message instead of having to shout down."
"Think so," Oliver replied, gauging the distance again and not saying anything about the creatures. The last thing he wanted to do was jinx it. It took two tries, but Oliver managed to catch the pack with one hand, though it was a struggle to slide in on while holding himself up. "I'll only peek in first. I've been in one of these things before. There's usually not many places for a big critter to hide, so I'll peek in and if it looks off, I'll come right back down again, okay?"
