Owen still felt responsible for what had happened, but he also knew it was Them, more than anything. Even if they had pushed further, tried harder to get rid of Simms, or fix the problem, They would have still made sure they all ended up in those jail cells. "They gave us a sense of security by making us think we could handle the problem," Owen said. "I don't know what else we could have done." Beyond killing Simms, and while he knew some in the house were gung ho for that, Oliver hadn't wanted any of them to have to resort to murder.
Taking a breath, he looked around again, half expecting something strange and out of place to appear. But he saw nothing but trees. At least for now. "Having Scotty here might help, if Simms does come back. But we don't know that for sure. Obviously I'm still trying to catch up with everything, but... we should probably try to have some plan in place if Simms does reappear." Owen looked at Oliver, his brow cocked.
