Oliver nodded, keeping himself wrapped around Edwin as they headed back towards the barn. He was half expecting Scotty to be down there waiting as they broke through the treeline, but when it appeared they had a little time, he dragged Edwin back to him for one more kiss before starting to detach himself. "I'll message you the second it's done."
As it turned out, having a few minutes to himself wasn't necessarily a bad thing. It allowed him to think about how he wanted to approach the subject, and prepare himself for a few different possibilities on how it might go. He did end up dragging a few more trees back into the yard before he spotted Scotty, a sorry sort of dread filling his gut.
"Your timing's good. Rain just let up," he called just in case the kid didn't spot him right away. He gestured with his head back into the treeline. "Come on, there's one more I want to get into the pile then it'll be done for the day." He did probably need a little help to get that one through the thicket, but he also wanted a little distance between them and any onlookers gawking through the windows.
