"That would be the real definition of irony," Lennon said. "You could probably get up there with both hands and one foot if you had to." Hopefully it wouldn't come to that, because everyone who lived here had to visit the kitchen at the lodge every day. Unless maybe they had food stashed somewhere in their rooms, which wouldn't be the easiest thing to do given their selection.
He winced a little in sympathy as Felix put his foot under apparently icy water and reacted to it. "I didn't drop something on my foot, so I'm doing pretty damn good," he said with a smile. "So far it's a great day." Luckily for him he didn't yet know Lila was back around; just the thought of her had unpleasant associations for him.
