Ivy's question was met with a response from the woods, as two more shrieks rang out, each shorter than before, but still the same high, guttural sound. What hadn't changed, however, was the direction and distance it had come from. It sounded no closer than it had just a few minutes ago, when the scream had first been heard ahead of them.
The group was given a moment to consider that maybe they were just on edge and had only heard natural forest sounds when they had heard scraping, before one more scream pierced the night. While the sound was similar, the proximity was not. This was close, feet away, even, and while they still couldn't see anything, it was now clear that something was at their side, just beyond where Chase had been tying his scraps, giving whatever it was a path to follow as well.
