Who: Scotty & Ivy When: Mid-morning Where: Out on the front porch
Scotty had gotten a rush from trying to throw a rescue message into the river with Joe a few days ago, after he'd been unsuccessful at getting out of that wrought iron fence. He'd managed to get a bottle into the river on his second shot, which he had to believe was better than what anyone else could do. It was a fun little thing that helped his mood for however long.
And then the parade happened. He shouldn't have been surprised that this place managed to turn something fun, like a parade, into an infuriating nightmare. He hadn't been the only one to see his dad's face on the thing, plastic and smiling and uncanny. He'd been one of the people who stayed through the whole thing, wanting to storm off in a fury, but instead staying to see what other bullshit had been put into the parade. And maybe a little to see what triggered people. It seemed worth knowing.
This morning came with something that could potentially change his mood, though. Scotty carried the little voodoo doll around the house, a name already scrawled across it. Tobias. Of course. He kept wandering until he found someone who he felt comfortable talking to. Catching Ivy out on the porch, he figured that she was perfect. They still got along.
"Yo, what do you think They mean by pain and misfortune?" he asked, not bothering with casual greetings. He held up the voodoo doll, just to clarify what he was talking about.
