As Pam explained, the gears in Jerome's head started grinding and connecting dots, leading up to him getting a slight idea that this might be a variation of carnival, because he definitely knew that in some parts of the world, there were parades during that time. If you were overly generous, you could call the thing in Cologne a parade, too, but it was practically only an excuse for people to dress up in mostly bad costumes, drink alcohol and behave like idiots. But it was February, and years ago, he would go pick costumes with his children for the time schools would celebrate that day, letting the children come in costumes. Fond memories, and another thoughtful frown settled on his forehead, reminding him at the fact that he had such a holiday planned for his class at school and that this was probably not going to happen now.
Now as Pam had mentioned it, Jerome could remember that he had seen some masks, which are in no way affiliated with the kind of carnival he was accustomed to, but, given this context, it made sense. He nodded along to Pam's explanation while slowly making his way to the fridge, not very pleased with the fact that he was missing his very first holiday-like occasion at home, but he was not letting on to that in any way. Still, he allowed his eyes to burn with annoyed anger at that very fact during the short time he had his back turned to Pam, restraining himself by the time he was turning around again.
"Oh, you mean carnival, right? We celebrate that, too, but it's... quite different. Also no, thank you." He smiled politely while declining, turning back to the fridge to open it and to find... something inside, something that also hadn't been there the day before, which heavily implied that it had been put there alongside with the cake by these assholes who thought it would be a great idea to celebrate fucking holidays inside their fucking prison. It got an angry glare for a heartbeat, before Jerome tried to figure out what that actually was. A pot full of... goulash? No, not really.
"The cake apparently isn't the only thing they put here last night.", he commented skeptically, taking a step back in an attempt to try to let Pam take a look into the fridge from where she stood.
