It still was kind of hard for Jerome to watch Oliver doing the kitchen work, especially since he himself was done already and merely watching at this point, and his legs twitched slightly as he was heavily tempted to grab the ingredients that Oliver had used and was already done with with his own hands to put them back into the fridge, but he didn't move an inch, trying to tell himself that he already had done his share of the work and that it was okay.
This whole thing heavily reminded him at literally every situation at home when he was ill, and his children more than happy to help him out with his daily tasks, very much to his disapproval because he always needed to feel like the capable adult that had everything under control and wasn't burdening his children with housework other than what they usually had to do. A little smile flit over his lips when he remembered the day his daughter had secretly cleaned the kitchen for him, more or less successful given that she had been 11 at that point, and it was relieving that he still could hide inside this very moment from the desperate stings the memories about his children usually evoked inside his heart since his arrival.
He stepped a little to the side when Oliver approached him to rinse and wash the knife he had used, arching an amused brow at Oliver's words, and inevitably thinking about Joe's age after all, rather reluctantly. Joe seemed roughly about the same age as Oliver, but he couldn't for the life of him imagine that anyone would want to joke around with Joe in a manner like that, teasing him about his age. He probably would answer with his fists anyway, and for a heartbeat, Jerome frowned sceptically. But the moment faded as quickly as it came.
"You are not even that old.", Jerome replied amusedly, watching the knife taking its shower. "Admittedly, turning 50 was quite a stab to my ego. For all I care, you are allowed to keep those jokes around here." His amused smile grew wider, then he nodded after having taking a scrutinizing look around the kitchen to make sure everything was stored away and cleaned up. "Yes, we can go."
