Rey looked up with her spoon in her mouth, wide-eyed with surprise and trepidation. She glanced around the dining area rather deliberately, noting that there were plenty of other places to sit, so the request hadn't been made because there was a lack of places to sit.
It was actually fairly common on Jakku for scavengers to pair up. It was safer, and often resulted in a larger haul for the day with two doing the work. Rey's solitude had been a conscious choice she'd made, one of the many ways she clung to the hope that someone was coming back for her, someday. Making connections, having friends, felt like giving up. Settling in for the long haul.
This, of course, was not Jakku, and to survive here, in a place she had no idea what to expect, and no means of escape, well. Maybe it would be wise to make friends. Rey swallowed the bit of dessert in her mouth and wiped at her lips with the back of her hand. "Um...no, I don't mind," she finally replied, somewhat awkwardly.
