There was the sound of a mattress bouncing, the springs bobbing, and an excited puppy yip. She shook her head. "He always bounces a little on the bed before going to sleep."
Lifting herself she walked down the hallway with Tristan to Harvey's bedroom where he was indeed bouncing on his knees, laughing as Auggie hunkered down and looked confused. "Harvey," she scolded lightly, though as always, she was impressed with his resiliency and his ability to bounce back. He immediately stopped jumping and held up his arms. She moved to sit down on the bed and hug him for a long time. Damn her hormones, she'd even started getting a little misty eyed when he hugged her these days.
"Better get some sleep, buddy," she said, patting his back and then tugging back the covers for him to scramble under. She kissed his forehead then his cheek and then kissed the top of Auggie's head before standing and letting Tristan have his turn.
"I hear our food, " she said to Tristan and squeezed his arm, then went to answer the door and get the chinese.
