Re: Callan
Callan watched him warily with a knot in his stomach, but didn't move save for a tip of his head. He knew he couldn't run and get away, and really he wasn't the running type. He could feel this one was - something, he was going out of his way to prove it, and he also knew he wasn't going to win in a fight. So, he used the only weapon he had - logic. Well, that and the lesson he'd learned with Sterrin.
"Why'd ya bother?" he asked him. "I told her when this business started and every time since when she's come home an' told me what ya said that I'd leave if you were what she really wanted because I want her to be happy. And every time she says she wants me. I ain't sayin' she don't want ya in some way or another, but why push for a woman that when given the choice keeps pickin' someone else? Seems to me if she really preferred the situation she was in with you and had intentions of bein' in it again, she woulda just stayed that way instead a startin' up and stayin' with me. Or at least come back to ya one of the times I gave her the option. Erin knows I'll do what makes her happy, and she says that's stayin' with me."
He uncrossed his arms and gestured. "I love her. An' I know you're - somethin', I can't rightly tell what an' it's prolly best I don't know, but I don't mean any disrespect. And I dunno how you feel about her, and again, it's prolly best I don't know. However, if ya cared for her at all beyond her being one of the women ya played with whenever ya felt like it, ya'd let her make her own choices and respect 'em, whether ya like 'em or not."
