Multipurpose multipup, Manor, morning, OTA
Leo had actually been into the office on a Sunday, not unheard of but not a regular occurrence, because Carnahan had called him to say that some papers from Pangolin had been misdirected to his office and that he had, shamefully, forgotten to mention it. He had offered Leo Sunday evening dinner in recompense and Leo had accepted cheerfully, then had put the phone down and cursed and got down there sharpish. Now he was back, envelope in pocket, considering options and ready for tea - possibly iced because it was a warm day.

Vincenzo greeted Lawyer Beck on his way through the lobby then settled back in his seat and eased his collar. It was hot. He might have to fetch the one of the fans from the security suite. They didn't need ALL of them in there.

#

Ruth had finished her laundry and paused to look in the mail room. She felt - restless - and couldn't work out why.

On impulse she spoke to the young man at the security desk and he smiled and agreed to keep her small package of laundry, neatly folded inside a pillow case, in his cupboard until she came back for it, and she hitched her purse under her arm and went for a walk. Maybe to the park - or the Square.

Though she would probably end up at the museum.

The lack of the pool house was being felt quite keenly by some of the residents so Charlie had obtained an extra large and extra tough paddling pool and obtained permission to put it on a sunny patch of ground not far from the gazebo. Overnight he and Nick and Phil had put it up and filled it and now the sun was busy warming it.

He sat on the grass laughing as Nia, in a very frilly swimsuit, dipped her hands in and squealed and ran about shaking them and going "brrrrrrrrrrr". The way the temperature was rising it would soon be milk warm and he might even have a paddle himself.

Susan walked from the counter of the Mocha with a big ice tea in her hands. Her work shift was starting in half an hour in the laundry room, but she had already changed to the maid uniform since she liked to ease into work slowly by starting with a very cold drink, chatting with the other staff and slipping into her work station.

This time Susan spotted that guy manning the security desk. That guy who dated the chef of La Fee Verte. Vin was a nice guy, Susan felt, a super nice guy with a bright smile, so she couldn't blame Brandon, but it was a curious coupling anyway.

"Morning," Susan greeted him with a wide smile when she came out of the Mocha and walked across the lobby. "What's up?" she asked and stopped by the desk. It didn't hurt talking to him a little more - he was her only way to get more information about Emily Brandon, even though the woman seemed like she was everything but scandal-material.

"Hey, hun," Vincenzo said with a grin. He liked Susan. Some of the maids were really hard to talk to, either because they ignored men who weren't available or because they were, frankly, a little on the dim side. But Susan had a ready wit and he felt could probably have done a fuck-load better for herself if she had found the accommodation so good and the work fairly easy.

"I have absolutely nothing going on. All is well in Manor land as far as security is concerned. How about you? No troublesome tenants I can sort out for you?"

"Other than Mrs. Banks always wanting to serve me cookies when I go there, and Mr. Harris always wanting to watch me clean? Okay, it's a little perverted, but otherwise, no problems at all." Other than the fact that she had not gotten to most of the tenants she had wanted to in the first place, not yet at least. "I'm pretty sure you can't kick anyone's ass for that, sorry to say."

"Mrs Banks brings us cookies too," Vincenzo said with a chuckle. "God knows what she puts in them. Mr Harris seems okay to me but I've never been shut up with him in his apartment. You've got us on speed dial, haven't you, if you and your feather duster get to be too much of a temptation and he makes a grab?"

"The security number was already programmed to the speed dial in the work phone, I noticed," Susan reassured him. She took a long drink of the ice tea, and changed the topic to steer the conversation to another direction.

"You got a summer vacation coming up? Any plans? I noticed I'm not getting practically any, I'm too new in the house," she grumbled.

"There's a pool, there's a pool, ma, a blow-up paddling pool, can I go in there!?"

When Rahul saw it, it turned on his heels and bounded back to Chandika, who was sitting outside the Mocha door with an iced caffe latte.

He was big enough to take off his shoes and socks by himself, but she made sure his trousers were securely rolled up before she let go of him and he could run back to the thing.

Charlie looked across at Chandika and gave her a wave. "It's still a bit cold," he called. "Give it an hour and it should be fine."

Then he gcarried on putting sun screen on Nia's back and shoulders. Little red headed girls didn't need to be red in other places too.

Rahul stepped in valiantly.

"COLD!!" he cried, gleefully, wading gingerly through the water. It didn't quite reach the edge of his rolled-up trousers, but he was careful because his ma would send him upstairs if he got too wet.

"I wanna go in too," Nia said and Charlie sighed and got up.

"It's too cold," he said, "and you must promise not to splash anyone."

"I p'omise," Nia said, then shrieked as he picked her up and lowered her in.

"Told you so," Charlie said, lifting her out again.

"This is really nice and cold," Rahul said, showing off a little because he was a big boy already who could read or stand in cold water without shrieking.

In case she did go to the Square, or came past it on her way to the museum or the park, Ruth would have seen Urquhart sitting at a corner table of the Auberge's outside area, smoking a cigarette with his triple espresso and large glass of water.

She did see him and contemplated going past, because he looked preoccupied and joining him might look - as though she expected something. But then she considered that to just walk past would be unfriendly so she approached and cleared her throat and smiled.

"Hello," she said and passed by into the cafe.

Might as well get a drink while she was there.

Urquhart looked up and smiled at her, brightly. He had to stop himself from giving a little laugh at the very typical Ruth Mitchell sort of reaction.

She would probably be self-assured and assertive before a room filled with a thousand of the world's best scholars of antique pottery at a conference, but seemingly purposeless social situations were not something she'd do or feel safe in.

"Oh no, I'm not busy at all, sit down please," Urquhart said. "I'm just trying to get my brain started. Somebody to focus on and talk to would help a lot."

Give her a purpose. Give the aimless, social conversation a purpose.

A very small, very chubby tri-colored brown Australian shepherd puppy bounded over to Charlie and Nia because hey, fun! It yipped merrily, ran over to Nia and licked her knee, and then froze at the sound of Bea's voice.

"Pax!" Bea said as she appeared wearing a pair of blue Hello Kitty shorts and a white tube top, Pippa walking next to her. "Hey!" she said with a bright smile to Charlie and Nia as she picked up her new puppy. "Sorry. We didn't mean to pool-crash."

"Puppy," Nia said reverently.

"Puppy!" Nia said again, scrambling off his lap.

Bea grinned and squatted down to Nia's level before putting Pax back on the ground.

"This is my new puppy Pax," she said by way of introduction. Pax with his freedom once more, ran back over to Nia. He'd learned in his very short life span that the teacup humans were usually far more prone to playing.

"And look at you," Bea said as she plopped down on the ground next to Charlie. "All those daisy chains. I never could figure out how to make one of those things."

"Hello, puppy," Nia said, squatting and holding out her hands for him to sniff. She giggled as she felt the tickle of his whiskers.

"Oh, Daisy Chain One Oh One," Charlie said with a grin. "Look - one daisy, little slit through the stem with my thumb nail, poke the stem of the next daisy through the hole, little slit through that stem and repeat until you look, as I do, like the Queen of the May." He batted his considerable eyelashes at her. "So - how are the wedding plans? Andy's full of it. She's also due to pop any minute, poor love, and says that Erik is showing signs of mild concern, which for Erik means he's frantic."

Bea studied his actions closely, then picked her own daisy to give it a try. "Awww, I'm going to have to give her a call this week. I've been worried about her and I miss her terribly. Besides, she's the only person with a vagina that I trust to give me an honest opinion on a wedding dress and won't attept to guide me to something that makes me look like a lace doily. Pax, easy," she said to the puppy when he stood on his hind legs to lick Nia's chin, then smiled back at Charlie.

"Wedding plans are - going. We're likely going to take off and elope somewhere in Europe since I don't have any family and I'm shit at planning big girlie things like weddings. I would like to have a party here at the Manor, though. A sort of reception. Would that be possible, do you think?"

It was hot out so Deacon - being Deacon - was walking about without a shirt and wearing his old worn denim cut offs and flip flops. Knowing Charlie and Nia were still at the paddling pool he'd put a few drinks in a cooler - beers for him and Charlie and juice for Nia - and headed down.

"Love the necklace, Mouse," he said with a chuckle and sat the cooler down then lowered himself down onto the grass as well.

"Splash you," she offered. "Splash splish." She flicked wet fingers at them and giggled like a monkey.

Charlie chuckled. "We are going to get wet," he said. "You watch. She'll make an excuse to climb out and be cuddled in a minute."
