Eli, in the gardens, making phone calls
Eli had gotten up early today, wanting to get his calls done and over with as little yelling as possible. So he started with his commander first. After a bit of fast tracked talking, some pleading, and a lot of yes sir's, he had paperwork filed for an extension on his leave.
Item one on the list - done.
Sitting on a nearby bench he watched Pax play around with a grasshopper and called his sister, listened to her squeal as he held his phone away from his ear grinning, then explained to her about the puppy barks answering her. "You'll get to meet Pax soon, I promise." He said, then said his goodbyes.
Second item - done.
He set his phone down and played with Pax for a little bit, but when the pup fell asleep, he decided he needed to call his parents. This he needed to pace for, and with Pax asleep he could do that in peace. He waited as the rings sounded, then was relieved his father answered. He told his news, then beamed at his father's congratulations and winced at his mother's shrieks.
Then the chatter of arranging family meetings and bridal showers and rehearsal weddings and dress fittings started and Eli just shook his head. "We haven't set a date yet, Ma. Slow down and please, please don't call to bombard Bea with all this. Give her a few days to get used to saying yes?" He pleaded, hoping above all hopes his mother didn't make her change her mind. With a little more pleading, his mother agreed that she would give them a week of space and shooed him off the phone so she could make her own calls.
Disconnecting his line from the call, Eli groaned. He should've extended that reprieve to nobody in the family or anybody his mother talked to should call them in a week. Dialing again, he meant to enforce that, but the line was busy. Shit... Time to turn the phones off or just not answer those calls. He could send his mother to voicemail for a week without much of a guilty conscience...
