An apartment building in the City, early evening, AU!Sibyl and NPCs [[closed]]
"Slick?" Sibyl said, poking her head into his apartment. "You there?"
It wasn't like him to leave the door open!
Nor was it like him to leave his apartment looking like it had been burgled. CDs and DVDs strew the floor, cushions were off chairs and the large TV was a shattered ruin. If Sibyl had been sensible she might have left but from the bedroom came the faint sound of breathing, harsh and shallow.
"Oh God, Slick, what happened!" she exclaimed, stalking through the wreckage on her high heels. Normally, she'd kick off her shoes on these deep carpets, but not with all the broken pieces of glass and plastic. She pushed open the bedroom door.
The first thing she saw was blood, spattered thickly across the bedding and pooling ugly and clotted on the cream carpet. Then he saw him, face down and limp, still tangled in the sheets where he had been caught. His arms had been trapped at his sides by the folds of expensive satin but his feet and legs were free. One shoe was on, the other, bloodied around the heel stood neatly on the nightstand.
But he was still alive. Sibyl gasped, staring at him. "You need a doctor," she said, surprising herself with her lack of panic. "I'll call an ambulance."
Still bleeding sluggishly from the gashes in his scalp, surely from their shape inflicted with his own cuban heel, Slick replied only with a faint moan but he did stir and try to turn his head towards her.
Sibyl pulled out her phone, then hesitated.
She didn't want her name on record. Not in connection with Slick. Everybody in this business did it, but actual police embarrassment was totally out. Where was his landline?
She turned on her thin, high heel and scanned the mess for anything phone-like. She almost missed it but turning nudged a dvd case, which in turn nudged the phone and it glowed under the edge of the sheet.
iPhone, of course. Nothing but the best for Slick.
"Damn," she murmured. "Does this thing have an app to get and make phone calls? Ahhh, here!"
She dialled 911, totally ignoring any automatically programmed emergency numbers. "Hello? Ambulance service? Police? There's been an assault!"
It only took ten minutes for the paramedics and police to arrive and a uniformed officer kept Sibyl to one side while the paramedics worked over Slick. Eventually they nodded and the officer said, "Okay, he'll do. Get him out of here," with a voice that had very little of sympathy and quite a lot of contempt. He returned her driving licence and admonished her not to leave town then went to accompany the man to hospital.
They were all busy with him, so Sibyl took the chance to slip away, out of the apartment and the building, back home to the Manor.
Without having done what she came for, but eh, Slick's life was far more important!
