AU Emily and Audrey Brandon at home in the Manor; Closed
The TV was on but neither Emily or Audrey were watching it. The 12-year-old girl was filling the washing machine in the kitchen after dinner, while her mother was starting ironing in the living room. Their apartment was one of the smallest in the Manor since Emily with her job as a cook in the low-priced and thus popular steakhouse couldn't afford much. Still, she had wanted to live in the Manor to give her only daughter the best environment to grow up that she possible could.
"Mom? Is there any ice cream left?" she heard Audrey's voice from the living room.
Now the TV had caught Emily's attention - that damn cook show was on again. Gregori Rushenko's cooking tour. She stood behind the ironing board glaring at the TV and the gleeful face of the handsome celebrity chef.
"Mom?" Audrey called again and peeked her head to the living room.
"Sorry, what?" Emily jerked back to reality. Quickly - a little too quickly - she reached for the remote and turned off the TV to hide Rushenko's face.
"Ice cream?" the girl who resembled her mother greatly with her brown hair and chocolate eyes said slowly, as if talking to a crazy person.
"Oh! Right. If you didn't eat all of it, there should be some rocky road still left."
"Cool! D'you want some?"
"No thanks, I'm fine," Emily answered shaking her head.
Audrey stood by the door looking at her with a confused expression. Sometimes her mother got all strange and closed up like that, but she never undrestood why.
Emily continued ironing with a frown on her brow. She didn't want to watch Rushenko's show, and she explained it to Audrey by telling her his accent annoyed her.
Funny, his accent had been one of the things that had attracted her the most, some 13 years ago.
