Daphne's hands twisted together as she looked worriedly toward Isabella's room. "Yes, I suppose I should," she said, but made no move in the direction of the cafeteria.
"Come on. I'll go ask if Bella would like anything before I go."
She led Ylva to Isabella's room and knocked softly before stepping inside. Isabella sat up in her bed, hair, face, and eyes lifeless as she stared out the hospital window. The heart monitor beeped steadily and there was an IV strapped to her left hand.
"Bella," Daphne said and smiled. "You have a visitor. I was going to go get some food. Would you like anything?"
Isabella glanced away from the window to the tray on her bed table that was still loaded with the lunch the nurses had brought that she hadn't touched. "No thank you," she said in a hoarse voice.
"Some Seven Up," Daphne said. "And crushed ice. You have to ingest something."
Isabella shrugged. "If you think so."
Daphne sighed and looked at Ylva before patting her shoulder. "Be right back."
