Joel Castilloux, arrival to MM, lobby

Joel Castilloux arrived by cab to the Morningstar. He had made all the arrangements by solicitor, so the Morningstar Manor had only been pictures to him so far.

He had made arrangements with his agent to have the two bedroom apartment furnished and what items he wanted from home had already been shipped and should, if all things went to plan, be in place.

Joel paid the driver.  He walked past the doorman and into the lobby of his new home.

He stopped near the middle of the lobby and did a slow turn to take in what would now be his home.

"Hallllooooo," Sarah Roth said with a smile. The guy looked a little lost, and he didn't look familiar. New tenant, maybe. She gave him a friendly wave. "Impressive, huh?"

She did a slow turn, too.

Joel stopped and looked at her. "Yes, Impressive. I've only seen this through pictures, so I'm taking it all in."

Turning to the woman, "Joel Castilloux." he said. "Just moving in." he announced.

"Sarah Roth. Nice to meet you. You'll probably love it here. I say probably because most people do, but ya know, I don't know you. You could hate it," she said. "But I doubt it."

Joel chuckled, "Well, I'm sure my solicitor would not steer me wrong. She knows what I like and don't. Though living in a step up is different from living in a home." He looked to see the amenities that were in the lobby. The bookstore caught his eyes as did the coffee shop.

"So far so good."

"You have a great accent!" Sarah grinned and followed his gaze around the lobby. "Yeah, we have a great bookstore, really stellar coffee shop. The Mocha rocks. But watch out for Joy."

She shuddered. "She'll boil you with her eyeballs."

Joel forgot he was in the land of America and people love accents. "Joy? Who is she? and why would she boil me with her eyeballs?"

'She's the barista, and she hates EVERYONE," Sarah told him. "She'll strip the skin off you with her laser beam gaze, just because! But she does make a mighty fine mocha latte, I'll give her that."

"Well I'm more of a tea man myself. Can you recommend a place where I can get a good cuppa tea?" H was going to have to find a good pub too, but it was to early to think of a lager just yet.

"Hmmmm. You can get a good cup or pot of tea in the Mocha. Also in the Green Bean, which is in the Farmer's Market, at the Foundry. If you don't know that place, you need to go," Sarah said seriously. "They have a really great selection of loose teas. AND scones. Yummy!"

"That will hit the spot, maybe you can show me sometime. I'm terriably rubbish when it comes to directions." He looked once more around. "How do you like living in this high style of luxury?"

Joel smiled at her, "Thank you. Now, I need to meet someone to sign some papers to make this all proper. I believe the manager has the proper paperwork for me."

He remembered to ask, "Where do you reside Ms. Roth?" He would have to remember this information.

"Ah, you'll want Ms. Vale, she's in the Tenant Office, just that way." Sarah pointed. "I'm up on twelve. I'll see you around, though, especially if you brave Joy's wrath and dare enter the Mocha."

"Thank you," he said as he eyed whee Sarah pointed to. "And we'll see about Joy and her laser eyes. The tought of getting used to American coffee is beyond me at the moment." Joel gave a shiver to that thougt. "I believe I'm on the seventh," he said. "Thank you for your time and look forward in bumping into you."

Joel headed towards the Tenant office as directed and readied himself to sign his life away.

The tall dark form of Robbie was just passing through the lobby when he spotted... the new fellow. Had to be new by the way he was looking at the place. Robbie had just been adjusting the collar of his black leather jacket, but he slowed down as he approached the man.

"Welcome to the Manor," he said with a lopsided smile and an obvious Irish accent.

Joel stopped and noticed the accent and then looked at the man. "Thank you, it's quite impressive." Joel looked at the interior of the lobby. "A bit overdone but this is America," Joel joked.

"Well your solicitor couldn't have done a finer job," Robbie said with a firm nod. "I haven't lived in the Manor for too long but I've lived in the City for... over fifteen years?" Then he paused giving the man in front of him a good look and then tilted his head a little awkwardly. "Hope you don't mind me asking but should I know who you are? Your name rings a bell but I don't remember what kind of a bell."

"Do you like cars? Wine?" Joel looked Robbie, "I'm a televiion presenter in England as well as a columnist." Joel shouldn't be surpirsed that he woul be recognized one way or the other. New York was an international city.

"That's right! I'm bad with faces, sorry about that," he chuckled. "Yeah I'm into cars and I've read some of your things. I like to renovate old classics back to their former glory on my free time, slowly but surely. I buy old heaps of rust, skeletons of classics, and then I spend a lot of time and money and effort to revive them." He shrugged. "It's just a hobby."

"We all say that," Joel replied. "I have my few babies being stored back home while I'm here. We'll have to get together and talk about them. I'm looking forward to seeing what I may find here. My friend had a great love for American Muscle cars." With that thought Joel frowned. One of the reasons he was here was to forget. He tried to change back to the happy face but failed slightly. "So you recommend the high style living here?"

Robbie looked around a bit. "High style... well it is awfully decorated and a little pompous but it is the place to be and the best place to live. There's almost everything you need here, the coffee shop there and a garden, a pool and another garden on the roof, a freaking spa in the cellar, there's the best pub of the City right around the corner - the Slaughtered Lamb - a big library and Lord knows what," he listed and rolled his eyes. "And the service is phenomenal, the community is active and friendly, and the ladies..."

Joel had to chuckle with him when he said 'ladies.' "Perhaps once I get settled you can direct me to the local hot spots. I'm terriable with directions and usually have to ask more than once how to get there. One reason to living here, to be close to things."

Joel wished he had a new card on him, he still had to get a cell phone set up and such. "Do you have a card? I could ring you when I'm set up?"

"I'll take you to the Lamb for a pint some time," Robbie promised while he reached inside his jacket and got his wallet out of the breast pocket. From there he got a card and handed it to Joel - it said his name, his contact information, boasted a peculiar Celtic logo, the company name Gréasaí and a title under Robbie's name - CEO.

"There's the number, but you can find me up on the fourth floor, I'm 479."

"You new here?" Cam asks although he knows perfectly well that the man is. His accent is almost as English as the other guy's, but it's blurred by the time he's lived in the States and travelled in other countries.

"Welcome to the Manor, anyway. Friendly bunch, aren't we?" He's noticed everyone else being welcoming to the guy and decided to join the goodwill committee.

"Yes, I am," Joel smiles as he hears the accent. He was getting a feeling he wouldn't be as homesick as he thought he would be.

"So far," Joel agreed. He had been pleasantly surprised that he had been welcomed. Plus it made him think he stuck out like a sore thumb.

"Joel Castilloux," he introduced himself.

"Calum Shaw," he said, sticking out a hand. "No relation to Charlie Shaw, should you have met him yet."

He grinned at the other man.

"Pretty much everyone knows everyone here," he explained. "It's one big dysfunctional family here in the Manor."

"Calum," Joel repeated. He was going to have fun remembering names. "I'm seeing that." Which felt good in a way. He left his other dysfunctional family behind.

"Seems I may have been lucky then to land a spot here," Joel reflected.

"Everyone calls me Cam though," he said with an easy grin. "No-one will know who you mean if you talk about a Calum."

He tucked one slender hand into a pocket and eyed the other man over the top of his sunglasses, which he was wearing for no obvious reason.

"Yeah," he agreed. "It's pretty hard to get in. Still, once you're in it's for good as long as she likes you."

"The Manor, of course," he said easily, as if it were the most natural and obvious answer in the world. "She's a grand old lady - do well by her, she'll do well by you."

He patted the pillar he was standing by affectionately.

"Ah," Joel answered. "I can understand that. Like an older reliable car, you treat her well, and keep her polished, and she'll keep her stately appearance."

"I find it refreshingly charming."

"So Cam, what makes you Manor material?" He was a young man, but even young could work and have money.

Cam chuckled, wondering how long it would take the older man to realise that the Manor was a lot more than an inanimate object - but then, some people never seemed to.

"I'm an entertainer," he said. "Close-up magic, some bigger stunts sometimes. I play the piano too but that's just for my own amusement." Cam didn't really have the air of someone who had ever really had to work for a living in any true sense of the word.

"How about yourself?"

Joel smiled when he heard entertainer. "I play a bit of music, trained classical."

"Author, columnist. I used to be involved in a show for the BBC but we're on hiatus at the moment. Needed a change. So I do what I want, when I want really."

"Do you do shows, or appearances?"
