"I have a confession, then," she said. "I didn't think of you like that. I don't mean I never did. I just mean I didn't lay awake at night hoping...I just didn't think it would happen so I was trying hard to just look ahead, not behind. And then we got over that bad time, we started becoming friendly again, and I liked it. And I thought, well, if that's what we have, I guess it should be enough."
She put her head on his shoulder. "I'm not saying it didn't kill me to know you were with other women, because it did, but I had a choice to let that eat me up inside and hate you, or move on and just...let you be happy, whatever you had to do to be happy."
