Laura, Manor Gym, OTA
It was too cold to do yoga outside, so having missed the Tai Chi thanks to a prolonged, difficult surgery, Laura came down to the gym in the evening. Wearing black track pants and a jacket, she toed off her shoes by the stretching area, and then took off the jacket to reveal a white midriff-baring top. Her platinum blond hair was on a high pony tail, and all her movements already before the actual excercise were as refined and controled as ever. She began with calming breathing excercises in the lotus position - only now thinking that she should have taken a pair of earplugs with her to shut out the loud noises of the other gym users.

Frustrated by the moronic levels of idiocy at the lab today, Icene had deliberated between going to the range and shooting things, or doing something more productive in the form of working out in the gym. She had her annual review coming up and part of that was a medical and fitness test. So she turned up at the gym in her customary black lycra cycling shorts and black skinny rib tee-shirt. With her hair in a ponytail she wasn't even looking round as she jumped straight on a treadmill and set it going, only then draping her towel over the rail and setting her water bottle in the bracket.

Looking in the mirrors she barely registered many of the other tenants, nodding and half smiling at some she recognised, but the woman in white made her snort with laughter. What a contrast the pair of them made, one calm and serene in white, one grumpy and agitated in black.

After a while, Laura opened her eyes, then changed her sitting position to a crouching one. She stood up slowly - first extending her legs so that her chest was against her knees and her forehead at her ankles, and she finally rolled herself upright. The delicate porceline-like form of the woman extended up as she lifted her hands up and stretched towards the ceiling. At the same time, however, she noticed through the mirrors that a familiar neighbour was jogging behind her. Icene, right?

Catching the slow movement in the mirrors Icene carried on running, already she was feeling better though, and warmer - which always helped - so when the treadmill stopped as Laura finished standing up Icene didn't worry about it, but stepped off, grabbing her towel and water bottle before turning round. "Hi Laura, not seen you about for a while, but then, work has been crazy so, I've not been about much. How's you?"

"Work's been crazy, not been around much," Laura shrugged and smirked. "Holiday season, huh. Supposed to be a peaceful time but it's always the exact opposite."

"Tell me about it!" Icene smiled back, "Although you're lucky, you get to patch them up and send them back to their families, if they get to me, well, that's not so good."

She shook her head, "I blame commercialism for putting too much pressure on people to spend money. Given the current economic situation many people can't afford that and it just, well, stressed several beyond their ability to cope."

She'd had to deal with crime scenes for three family oriented murders, all of which had involved the apparent suicide of the person who'd started it. They were all still under investigation though, so she didn't mention them.

"Oh I know. Luckily I skipped most of the hysteria by driving up to my family in New York and sitting into a ready table," Laura said sounding rather proud of her clever accomplishment. "But we've had some very sad cases in the hospital as well. I can only imagine how sad it has been at the morgue."

"The lab wasn't very pretty, too many people off and just too many cases for the rest of us to handle easily, but," she shrugged, "what can you do? The morgue were still doing posts I think on New Year's Eve from Christmas."

The lab work alone on one case had taken her two days to process, but then again, she had a reputation for being meticulous and she planned to keep it. "So, is your mad rush over now then? Back to normal service? We're still mopping up, but it's getting there."

"The Holiday craziness is over, yes," Laura confirmed. "But it's never quiet in the hospital. How are you doing otherwise?" Laura asked and chuckled. "Or do you have any 'otherwise'? I haven't had a personal life in a while so I can imagine it has been the same for you."

Icene laughed, "Otherwise has been kind of sidelined in favour of work, but Adam is good for me, I unwind faster when he's around. So although it's been quiet, it's there still, which helps no end after a really rough day."

"Once the current batch of cases is over though, well it should settle down again. I hope." She sipped at the water bottle and grinned, "Of course then we get Valentines, but having worked Christmas, I had the entire office behind me when I booked that weekend off."
