Declan and Sterrin; Late Sunday night/early Monday morning; Apt. 11201
Declan walked into the apartment at an ungodly hour alone, tired, pissed off and with a knot of tension in his stomach. He had to turn his phone on at some point, but it wouldn't be tonight. Tonight, he wanted to take some Ambien and sleep until he felt like he was rested enough to handle the huge flood of bullshit that was heading in his direction right at that very moment. However, he heard the TV playing in the other room and he knew his sister was up, and that she no doubt knew. Those that couldn't get ahold of him had likely sought her out next.
Speak of the devil and the devil appears, he thought to himself as Sterrin walked into the room and leaned against the door jamb in a long button up men's shirt that he didn't want to know how she got.
"Hey there, superstar. You haven't been answering your phone," she drawled with a small smile playing at her lips.
"No," he replied and ran a hand through his hair.
Her head tilted. "Hmm. Well I think it's cute that you wanted to get all Pretty in Pink on Jack, but couldn't you just have done a interview with People or something?"
He took his coat off and shot her a look. "Not right now, okay? Just fucking keep it to yourself. I can't - deal with this shit yet."
Sterrin's brow wrinkled just a little, and while her brother's back was to her she gave him a very soft look. "Okay," she replied in a gentle voice. She took a step toward him and put a hand on his back and she supposed she couldn't blame him for flinching away.
"I need my privacy right now," he said in a sharp voice, and Sterrin sighed. She'd had no intention of reading him, she just wanted to comfort him a little. Crossing her arms in front of her chest, she cleared her throat.
"It'll be okay, Dec."
"I know it will be," he said after a long moment. "It's not like it's something I regret. I'm just not looking forward to what's coming."
"I know," she said softly. "The paparazzi are swarming. You might want to call dad and get some security detail."
"I don't need any fucking security detail," he said as he turned around. "I just need everyone to mind their own business. Why the fuck should it matter to anyone what I do?"
Sterrin's brow kicked up. "You sorta went about that the wrong way if you want your privacy there, Lance Bass. And you know they aren't going to leave something like this alone anyway. No matter who it is. You're sorta a notorious pussy-hound. You've thrown some people for a loop."
He sighed. "I know."
She took a few steps forward and wrapped her arms around his neck for a hug. "I promise I'm giving you your privacy," she said when he tensed up. "I'll protect you. They won't fuck with me. And if you did all this for Jack and he dumps you, I'm really going to see his ass kicked."
That managed to get a laugh out of him. "Riiiiiight. Nobody's allowed to make me miserable but you, huh? You couldn't take him anyway."
"That's right. And I'm not a fighter, however my boyfriend might be able to arrange something," she said as she raised her brows.
"Boyfriend?" he said in a shocked voice. "A literal boyfriend? Who?"
"Max Sandberg."
Declan made a mental note to find out exactly who this guy was when life slowed down, even though his mind was still reeling. "Don't know him."
"He runs that club Sanctuary and Sandberg Associates. He lives here. You might have seen him. Blonde. Super tall. Scandinavian." She smirked. "Gooorgeous."
His brow knitted. "Huh. How the hell did he manage that?"
"We're still fucking other people," she said matter of factly like he should've figured that out for himself.
His nose scrunched up at the thought of his sister doing that with anyone even though he knew well enough that she did and did it often. "Jesus, Sterrin. Ew."
She laughed. "You asked. See? Now we both have boyfriends. Maybe we can combine our powers and give Dad a heart attack when he calls next."
Declan's stomach tightened again at the mention of his step father and he turned to the medicine cabinet to remove the sleep medication. "Yeah, maybe," he said in a off-handed way as he dumped some pills into his palm and got himself a glass of water to take them. "I'm going to go to sleep," he said after he swallowed the pills. "I'm not going into the office tomorrow, so don't wake me up. And for fuck's sake, behave for the next few days, will you?"
"Okay," she said with a laugh. "Get some sleep Dec. It'll blow over eventually."
He nodded as he headed into his bedroom. It would blow over eventually, sure. But it was going to be hell between now and then.
