Lysette gave Del a brilliant smile. "That would be lovely, dear. Thank you so much!"
Robert also muttered a word of thanks, picking up Lysette's hand. He couldn't fathom the possibility of her not being around in a few months or years. He held her hand as she talked with Del, animated and clever and so captivating. What he'd done in the past few years, to her and their daughter, was slowly eating him up inside. When Del finally made a comment that indicated he might be leaving, Robert stood. "Allow me to walk you down to your car, son," he offered, even putting a congenial smile on his face.
