"I don't see what the big deal is," the woman replied in a bored voice. "They're just earrings. Daddy will buy me new ones."
Jazz glanced up, shooting Roxy a look that plainly said 'Daddy's buying these ones too,' before she closed the small jeweler's box - now holding the old, unimportant, earrings - and handed it over.
"Thank you," she told the customer, somehow finding her a brilliant smile for the woman. "And please, enjoy the rest of your afternoon."
The woman made a little spasm in Roxy's direction that might have been a wave and said to Jazz, "I'll be making another appointment in a few weeks. My birthday's next month."
"Faan-tastic," Jazz muttered under her breath. "Can't wait."
