Phin closed his eyes again. He'd been struggling to the bright side of actually waking up from any of these procedures. It meant he could try and fix things with Bridget but he was pretty sure this was about as good as their relationship was going to get. Once he was physically well again, she'd go back to hating him.
Their economic situation was going to get a lot worse too. Regardless of his co-ownership, he was still going to miss all the commissions and bonuses that went with all the extra work he'd been doing since the kids were born. And that wasn't even delving into how much these hospital bills were going to total. What if they had to go digging into the kids' college funds?
There were lots of reasons it would be better if he hadn't made it. After being bedridden for so long, he was really beginning to believe that the insurance money would benefit Bridget and the kids more than having him still around.
"I'm not going anywhere." He promised. He had no clue if this was true, but it sounded like she needed to hear it.
