Charlie had, not without a qualm, brought Nia. He was firmly of the opinion that if one never exposed a child to social occasions when one finally had no choice the child would behave like a hooligan. So he sat with her on his knee, fed her carefully and was prepared to leap up and take her into the gallery if necessary.
Classical music and toddler squeaks didn't mix but he was close to the back and thought it worth the risk.
