Apt. 229, Evening, Jazz, Cleo, and Jane
Truth be told, when Cleo came to Jazz Thursday night and asked about having a girl's night in Jazz was quite relieved. She'd been running out of ideas to keep Cleo occupied. And when Cleo mentioned calling Jane and seeing if she'd like to join? Well, that was just inspired.
So after a run to the nearby video store, where they searched for and then rented the most cliche chick flicks they could find, and some phone calls to a few take out places, they settled in the living room. Dressed in their comfy best they set up a nest of pillows and blankets and made sure all the girl's night necessities were within reach: junk food, wine, and all the bits to a great pedicure.
Only thing left up in the air was whether that knock at the door was Jane or the Chinese food they'd ordered. Of course, it wound up being both, since Jane had caught the chinese delivery guy in the Lobby on her own way up, so she came bearing food! There did seem to be a lot of it, which was why she had both hands full, never mind the big tin of cookies and muffins she'd baked after being invited. Well, nothing said happy people to her like plenty of chocolate chip cookies and muffins.
"I'll get it!" Cleo called out, and headed down to the door, opening it and almost immediately reaching out to rescue the bag of chinese that looked like it was about to fall, "Hi Jane, come on in, and hey, great call on bringing dinner with you!" She grinned, and stepped back to let Jane carry the rest through.
"I um, just happened to catch the delivery guy coming in, and um, I bought cookies and muffins too, just in case? But," Jane looked at the two bags of food, "somehow, I don't think we're gonna need them? But you never know."
Jazz's head appeared over the back of the couch, "Ah, but that's the point." She grinned. "Little bit of this, little bit of that...you get the best of everything."
"Exactly," Cleo agreed, heading for the kitchen, "Let's get this lot on a tray and we can get settled in with the first movie and some food. Did you want a drink or anything Jane?"
"Um, just a soda please? I might have a glass later, but, for now, soda is fine thanks." Jane smiled, following Cleo into the kitchen, and setting the bag of Chinese down on the side, along with the tin. She pulled a tray out of the cupboard where they lived, and started pulling containers out of the bag, "So what did you guys order? Anything nice? Ooh, did you get anything with mushrooms in it?"
"Your guess is as good as mine," Jazz admitted drifting into the kitchen, a DVD case in each hand. "Cleo did the actual ordering. I just asked her make sure eggrolls and sweet and sour chicken was coming."
"Oh I got mushrooms, I like them with beef, and I also think I ordered a mushroom noodles? Because hey, slippery food and chopsticks? Has to be fun!" Cleo laughed, and pulled plates from another cupboard, and then reached for a soda from the fridge. "I also got loads of other stuff, chicken, prawns, pork, and just veggies too in case?"
"Hmm, Broccoli..." Jazz smirked, peeking into one carton.
"I like Broccoli," Jane smiled, "What else is there? Oooh, Prawn Crackers! Yum!"
"Oh there should be two bags of those, and um, somewhere is a load of starters?" Cleo grinned, and started spooning a selection of foods onto a warmed plate for herself, "Dig in!"
Jazz held up the DVD's she was holding. "Somebody pick one, I'll put it in."
Cleo didn't even look up from the food she was dishing up, just said "Left hand", but Jane looked, and then smiled, "I've heard of those, but not seen either, I um, I'll go with the left hand one as well, but obviously we might have time for both?"
"Left it is," Jazz nodded and turned to go back into the living. On the way she called out, "Somebody make me a plate!"
Jane looked at Cleo, who rolled her eyes, and tried not to laugh around the mini spring roll she was currently eating. Jane grinned and pulled a plate out, then grabbed a spoon before remembering that she didn't know what Jazz liked in the way of Chinese. "Here, you have to sort the rest out? I have no idea!"
With an almost snicker of laughter, it could have been a half cough, she picked up her own plate full and headed for the lounge, aware of the somewhat strangled noises coming from behind her, "Um, I think Cleo is doing you a plate of food, but, I suspect you might wind up with some broccoli on it if you're not quick?"
"Mah," Jazz shrugged. "I'll just give 'em back to her if she does."
Jane settled on the sofa, occupying one end, and balancing her plate on her knees, "I'm sure she'd eat them, gotta love the green trees after all right?" She forked up some rice, and then smiled, how long had it been since she'd had Chinese? She couldn't remember. "This was a good idea, think we can do it again sometime?"
Cleo came in with two plates, and handed one to Jazz, "Sure we can, what you doing tomorrow night?" She laughed, and plunked herself on the floor in front of the sofa, "I kind of have to go back to school, but you two can carry on the tradition without me right? Even have a drink for me since technically I'm not supposed to right now huh? Stupid law."
Jazz had settled into her favorite chair, folding her legs beneath her and balancing the plate in her lap. With one hand, she used the DVD player remote to move around the DVD's menu, and with the other she picked up her glass of wine, sipping idly. "Which is really too bad, otherwise I'd say we could play the chick flick bingo drinking game."
"I have work tomorrow, no drinking games for me either, sorry," Jane smiled, "Well, not unless they can be played with sodas?"
Cleo laughed, "We can just have fun without the drinking games, they're really not required. After all, we have pedicure stuff, Chinese, cookies and muffins, movies, and absolutely no reason to need anything else?"
There was a niggling little voice in the back of Jazz's head, but she ignored it as she balanced her chopsticks and picked up a piece of chicken. "Nope," she agreed with Cleo. "All I wanna do is find out whether or not these girls actually kill John Tucker."
"Well then, we should watch the movie and find out!" Jane laughed, and settled back a little further, picking up her chopsticks and somehow managing to get food into her mouth rather than down her front.
"Exactly, and we can get more food, more drinks, more anything, as we need it, and not worry about a thing." Cleo nodded a couple of times, and then started on her own plateful, which funnily enough did include some broccoli.
