Garden, Monday morning, Charlie on phone, then OTA
Ringing Mum on Sunday while she relaxed after her Sunday roast and while Charlie was waiting for his spuds to brown was routine by now and they had had a nice long chat and, as usual, his dad had takent eh phone for a few minutes to ask after Nia and extend his best wishes to Deacon. But for Dad to have telephoned Charlie made this a bit of a red letter day.
Vastly pleased, Charlie multitasked, chatting to his father and playing football with Nia.
Nia scampered, squealing, after the ball and Charlie listened to his father biting his lips to stop himself from squealing as well.
"It would be wonderful," he said. "Yes, I understand Mum has set her heart on it. ... We don't want to put you to any trouble, honestly ... Won't it? ... Oh, but Dad it doesn't really work like that ... No, Dad ... No, honestly, Dad ... No, really it won't be a white wedding... Because Deacon would look silly in one ... yes and I'd look even worse so you can stop worrying about that." He chuckled as Nia brought the ball back and kicked it again. "Oh DAD! No! Look, we thought lounge suits - really good ones - for the ceremony, such as it is. And maybe evening suits for the reception. Really good ones again. ... Yes, they've still got our measurements. There should be time to get them fitted and finished once we're home... Well, yes, we're working on that. Oops!" There was a shriek from Nia as she tripped over the ball and fell headlong. charlie headed for her at a jog. "Oh, ow! yes, this is a two handed crisis. Sorry, Dad. Yes I'll kiss her for you ... Me too. See you soon. Love to Mum. Bye."
Charlie picked Nia up and cuddled her while she boo-hooed and hiccupped, and amused himself by dribbling the ball back towards the Mocha to bbe handy for when Nia stopped crying and demanded a cookie to 'make it better'. Whether she'd get one or not remained to be seen.
