Early Morning, Michaels Bros then back to the Manor, Spencer and Jane, Closed.
Jane had finished her grocery shopping, including a tub of her latest ice cream obsession, Haagen Dazs Green Tea Ice Cream. It was truly unusual, but utterly delicious! So she wasn't very happy when having stashed her grocery bags in the trunk the car wouldn't start. It turned, and turned and turned, it just, wouldn't start.
She waited a few minutes, in case she'd flooded it, then tried again. It woudn't go. So with a sigh she got out, unpacked her groceries, and headed back in towards the store. Of course pushing in through the doors she bumped into someone, and one bag split, sending her groceries across the floor. It was too much, she'd come out early hoping to be back in time to get up to the Avery apartment, and now everything was going wrong.
"Hey, don't cry, I'll help you pick these up, and then, hey, I know you," Spencer had only come in to do a couple of things, and was already on his way home, "it's Jane isn't it? Lobby C delivery? Not seen an order for a while, I guess you've been coming in huh?"
He gathered tins and packets, and rounded up the stray items that Jane hadn't caught, while she stared at him in a slight state of shock, "I, I like shopping here."
"That's good, now, how come you were coming in with all this? Forget something?" Spencer smiled, he'd done the deliveries for Jane for months when she first arrived at the manor, and she'd rarely said a word, just, opened the door and let him put the bags on the floor right inside the door and then she'd close it on him. She'd always looked terrified, but, today she just looked scared.
"I, no, the, my car won't start and I'm going to be late for work and I was going to call for a taxi, but, I don't have my cell, and, now my milk is leaking." Jane held up the carton of No-Fat milk, it dripped steadily, "I'm sorry, for making a mess all over your floor."
"No worries Jane," Spencer waved over a uniformed store person who headed off immediately, "I'll get you a replacement for the milk, and I was just going home myself, if you'd like a lift I can pretty much guarantee I'll be quicker than a taxi."
"Mr Michaels, you don't have to do that, I can, um," Jane tailed off as the shop assistant returned with a replacement carton of milk, and a mop and bucket.
"No, I insist, you've been a loyal customer since we opened the store, it's the least I can do, for old times and all those deliveries?" Spencer picked up the bags, all of them, and hung them on his arm, reaching down for Jane's hand. "Come on Jane, let me take you home."
Jane gave in and smiled, "Oh all right Mr Michaels, if you insist, otherwise my ice cream is gonna be all melted and not good at all. Haagen Dazs should be treated with respect, and not allowed to defrost before being eaten."
Spencer laughed, "Too right, come on then, let's get you home," and he led the way to his car, talking lightly about the Manor, things that were happening, and of course his wedding. He even issued an invitation for her to come along, since she'd been a long standing customer and all his customers were important to him.
Jane wasn't sure, even while he was carrying her shopping up to her apartment and setting the bags on her counter. Then she made up her mind, "I'll do my best, but, it might only be the reception? I'm working that day, but I can most likely go to that?"
Spencer was satisfied with that, and left with a smile, determined to make sure the little maid actually came to the reception, one way or another.
Jane put her shopping away, checked the time, and then ran for her trolley and prayed for the lifts to be good as otherwise, she was going to be late!
