Early Hours, Apt 8160, Ang and Alec, closed
Ang woke up suddenly, a sharp pain jolting her into full awareness. Her bladder protested that now she was awake, it needed emptying, so with a small and very quiet sigh, she slipped out of bed and down to the bathroom. Before she even got there another sharp pain had her reaching for the wall and almost doubling over. A silent gasp of shock, and then the pain was gone, leaving her slightly breathless and wide eyed. She continued onto the bathroom, a little nervously in case it happened again, but it didn't.
Rather than head straight back to bed, Ang padded into the lounge, worried that another pain might cause her to wake Alec. There was another one, but it was several minutes later, as she sat wrapped in a throw and flicking through channels with the TV muted. This one was so sharp that she dropped the remote and almost cried out. Hanging onto the sofa she tried to relax, to breathe through the pain as the antenatal classes had tried to teach... only to find her own method of old worked far better. Just as well really as another sharp pain had her biting down on a knuckle to stop herself from making any noise.
Alec needed his sleep, and these pains weren't coming regularly. The next one was further off, and less painful, and Ang wondered if these were the false labour pains they'd told her about at her last few visits. It was strange, but as her mind processed the thought, the baby kicked hard, and then settled back down into rest. Ang smiled, stroking her belly and settled back herself, relaxing into the sofa and snugging the blanket around herself more securely. The TV was showing some black and white movie, although Ang wasn't watching it.
Alec had been fine when she slipped out of bed, after all she was doing that a lot lately, but her rather longer than usual absence had him coming to look for her before an hour was up. She wasn't in the bathroom, but the flickering light from the lounge drew him in, and he smiled as he saw her on the sofa, eyes mostly shut, relaxed, and almost cocooned in blanket. "Ang?" He said softly, "Come back to bed babe, you'll get cold in here."
Ang turned her head sleepily, "Mmmm? Sorry hun, did I wake you?" The blanket was quite securely wrapped, and she struggled briefly to get free of it, then managed to haul herself upright. She yawned, and stretched slightly, "I'm coming, honest."
She moved across the room to join him, and together they went back to bed, Ang putting the pains to the back of her mind, as she snuggled into Alec and went right back to sleep.
Alec lay awake for a few minutes longer, he knew something had kept her from their bed, he just wasn't sure what, but she seemed fine, and eventually he too relaxed and went back to sleep.
