Vincenzo bowed his head over hers, his heart aching. "I'll be okay," he promised, holding her tight, "as long as I'm careful. But I need to know that you're safe, and you'll be safest with Mary-Anne and Kenny Baker."
He stroked her hair then put a knuckle under her chin so he could look in her eyes. "I've got your number, you've got mine. And I'll check in regularly. Just listen to Mary-Anne and you'll be okay."
Frank had approached and he gave her a comforting smile. "You'll be okay, hun," he said. "Anything you need from your apartment? Vin can go and fetch it for you once you're settled."
