Emily got up quickly straight into run, but slowed down just a bit to take Spencer's arm and help him move faster.
"Let's go, lean on me, we'll make it together!" she said now sounding a bit more hopeful. They concentrated on getting forward as fast as possible, supporting each other, and ignored the dangerous sounds of rattling metal and screaking fire-escape construction behind them.
They got to the door even if the distance had felt impossibly long with a deadly beast pursuing them. Emily pulled it open, pushed Spencer in followed right after him. She turned to close the door and with trembling finger she locked it.
