Chad/Sadie interview @ City PD.... Monday afternoon
Chad was looking over the fact sheet Icene had given him. He thought he already had details on everything listed... An officer had managed to get hold of the school secretary on Friday and acquire attendance records. Chad had spent a good night with them and a red pen, ticking off all the students that had been absent on the day of the Andover shooting, then ticking off a second time those who had been targeted in the recent string of shootings. Looking at the clock, he nearly jumped out of his chair as he saw her standing in the doorway. "Miss Ashford, I presume?" He asked as he stood and gestured to the chair opposite his desk.
Sadie looked him over then nodded. "I was told Officer Kennard," she said, nodding to the nameplate on the door, and stepped inside and took the seat. "What can I do for you?"
Chad picked up the coffee cup from the corner of his desk on his way back around, sat down then repositioned the cup in the middle of the desk. "Can I ask you some questions that might help us out with an ongoing investigation?" This was the routine question they were required to ask before any more could go on record as official questions. Chad despised the formality.
"Dunno how I can help but sure," Sadie said, crossing her legs and getting comfortable. 'Helping the police with their enquiries' sounded more exciting than ominous to her, though Sean had been aghast. "Ask away," she urged with a grin.
"Since the people becoming targeted are around your age, did you know any of them?" Chad asked quite obviously. He already knew she had some classes with a couple of the kids that had been shot already, but he didn't know if there was any friendships outside of school. Or if she'd even gotten along with those already targeted.
"Yeah," Sadie said. "All of them really. It's a big school but not that big." She began to count on her fingers. "Cassie, Joey, Amarie, I knew the boys who were shot by sight - not well."
Chad checked his list again as she rattled off names. The only one that didn't match up was Amarie. There was an Anna-Maria, that might be right... "Were you friends outside of school?" It seemed like a redundant question, but the difference between knowing somebody and being friends with somebody could be a targeting difference.
"Me friends with Prom Queen Clayton," Sadie sniffed. "Hardly. But Joey was sweet. Driven in a geeky sort of way. And Amarie and I still keep in touch. I never spoke to Kendo and Bruce. They were pure poison those two."
Chad scribbled notes down as she talked and he listened. He'd written not close with most but keeps contact with Amarie. "Amarie'd be Miss Orsini?" He asked in his scribbling. Best to be certain rather than have another potential victim out there not being kept an eye on.
"Yeah, we go way back," Sadie said with a grin. "Partner in crime - oh! Not really! Just a manner of speaking. We used to have fun together. " She smiled. "I was round hers a lot when I was a kid. It was always busy. So many people there. Not like at home."
Chad smiled as he made a note on the page. LTF - long time friends. "I know how that goes. Had one myself way back when. They're always good to have." Even when it means getting in trouble, he'd nearly said, since then at least you weren't alone in the slammer waiting for your parents. "You weren't in school the day of the shooting a couple years back, were you?" He asked a bit more pointedly.
Sadie rolled her eyes. "No and did we get hell for it? You'd a thought our parents would have been pleased we'd played hookey instead of getting shot - there was this sale and we knew we'd miss out if we waited til school was out, see - but no, we were grounded for like a month each. Well, Amarie was. Her mom is really strict."
He continued writing as she talked. Skipped school with Amarie. Amarie shot. Employed still @ 290? Andy shot @ 290... "You still work at the 290 Gallery down by the square?"
"Yeah, though I've got my eyes open for other things. It pays okay for a first job and Charlie's sweet but Andy's even more of a cow now she's on crutches." Sadie uncrossed her legs and crossed them the other way, toe bobbing impatiently.
Chad frowned. The reason Andy was on crutches could very well be that she'd been mistaken for Sadie, if the theory that the students who missed the Andover shooting were the targets of this shooting. "Were you friends with any of the kids that got shot in the school the day you missed?" He pondered, wondering if that had any relevance.
Saddie nodded. "Tracey and I were in first school together," she said. "Still can't believe I'll never see her again. And I dated Roy for six months. Used to hang out with several of the others. Why? OH My God! You don't think it's because of me do you?"
Chad shrugged as he wrote. "Just trying to figure out all the different possibilities. Don't worry, what you've given me so far is extremely helpful."
"Oh," Sadie said. "That's cool." She smiled at him. "Anything else you want to know?"
There really wasn't much else to ask, but Chad nodded. "Yeah. Anybody you woulda normally been hanging around with that hasn't been targeted yet?" Might be a long shot, but it would be worth checking out.
"Oh God! Masses," Sadie said, looking really worried. "Junia, and Ellie and - shit! Do you want a list? I've got a lot of friends."
Chad wasn't quite sure that he needed a complete listing of her friends, but it couldn't hurt. He slid a piece of paper and a pen over to her. "Write down who you can think of. It might be helpful to find the ones that went to Andover with you first though."
"Okay," Sadie said and began to make a list of everyone she knew, carefully tagging the ones who were at Andover. This was going to take AGES.
Chad sat back and waited patiently. He glanced at her list to see if anybody matched the names he had gotten from the school yet, then realized she must've been friends with nearly half the city as she continued writing.
