Travis and Amarie, Monday lunch date
Travis was entirely thrilled that Amarie was home today. Today especially, since Mondays were his free days from Rutherford. It was a nice thing to have an extra day off in the start of the week.
Shortly before noon, he wound his way down to the staff apartments and knocked on the door of Vincenzo's apartment. Hopefully it wouldn't wake Vincenzo up, and waited for Amarie to answer the door.
As it happened Vincenzo had just got up and ambled across to the door barefoot with a mug of coffee in his hand. "Hey," he greeted, and jerked his head towards the sofa. "She's up and dressed and ready. Hey, Amarie, Travis is here." That last was a shout and Amarie popped up over the back of the sofa, taking an earbud from one ear and saying, "What?" Then she saw Travis and beamed and got up. A little slowly perhaps but she was on her feet and heading towards him.
"Okay, don't go far," Vincenzo advised. "You hear, missy? Not far! Now I'm going for a shower."
Amarie grinned at Travis and rolled her eyes as her brother stepped into the bathroom. "He's been waiting to say that," she said. "So, how ya doing?"
Travis grinned as he observed the brotherly banter from somebody else's brother for a change. "Staying busy and feeling entirely out of place. Rutherford's an entirely different ball game. One where they don't tell you where to go and what to do."
"Oh cool. Treating you like a grown up, huh?" Amarie said with a grin. She was wearing converse, a long denim skirt and a hooded sweater that come down to mid thigh, and leaned to grab her purse. "Let's go huh? And you can tell me all about it outside. I can't wait to get out of this place. Vin's like a momma hen. Don'do this, don'do that. Sheesh, I'm not gonna relapse or anything."
Travis held the door open for her. She seemed dressed well enough for the weather outside. It wasn't raining, but it wasn't the bright summery days that had it had been a month ago. He himself was dressed in jeans, a tee shirt, and a zip up hoodie. "Want to grab lunch from the Mocha and eat out in the gardens?"
"Yeah," Amarie said, checking she had her key. "Oh God I am SO glad to be outta there. And outta hospital. Travis I was SO bored. You wouldn't believe it!" She grinned as they left the staff corridor and said, "Hi Frank," and grinned as he greeted her.
Once out of earshot she glanced at Travis and said, "He's sweet, and no wonder when he can eat his own weight in doughnuts."
Travis was still a little uneasy about wandering the halls past the security desk. Frank might've greeted Amarie kindly, but Travis swore the man scowled at him every time he'd seen him. He checked over his shoulder to make sure they were entirely out of earshot before laughing. "Sounds like a good morning distraction for 'em. Leave a box on the desk and see where they go?"
He pondered the idea, holding the Mocha's door open for her. The idea could easily transform into a project for one of his -ology classes... Somewhere, in some way, he was nearly certain of that.
"No secret about that," Amarie giggled. "They'd go down Frank - unless it was Jones on duty. He can eat his own weight in pastries, Vinnie was saying." In the Mocha she took a deep breath and looked around with interest. There were people - doing things. It was enthralling.
Travis laughed. Lunch at the Mocha seemed like such a treat to him now, when he usually crashed into the cafeteria at school. He wasn't even sure what he wanted for lunch. "Why's it that the cops are the ones that can do that and get away with it?" He pondered the thought as he considered suggesting a table and then deciding on lunch.
