Friday Evening, Mocha, Stone & OTA
((OOC - This post contains sensitive material! As noted here))
After his early morning run - that's right, Stone Hawthorne went out and ran - Stone had dragged himself to his apartment. He kicked off his shoes and collapsed onto his couch and had woken up some time in the afternoon in a twisted up position with his shoes still on. He'd gotten a shower, attempted to eat but failed and then had grown tired of his apartment. He'd left Alyssa in charge of the store as he'd done for the past four or so days.
Now he was in the Mocha, in a booth, angled to make sure no one could see his computer screen and halfway through his fifth cup of coffee. Seven weeks. Lara had said she was seven weeks pregnant. He'd tried to avoid thinking about it at all, but that had proved utterly impossible. Now he had to know. Was it...the baby?...an actual baby at that point? Or was it still fertilized-egg-like? Was it too soon for it to have a face? Fingers? Toes? Organs? Eyes? He had to know.
He had to have looked miserable as he googled fetal development sites, especially when he hit one in particular, which not only told him the following:
At 7 weeks gestation, every essential organ has begun to form in the embryo’s tiny body even though it still weighs less than an aspirin. The hair and nipple follicles are forming, and the eyelids and tongue have begun formation. The elbows and toes are more visible as the trunk begins to straighten out.
It also showed him what it would have looked like all gestating inside a uterus. It looked like a little alien, little dark eyes, tiny little finger nubs, big oddly shaped head. Had Lara seen pictures like these before she'd made her doctor's appointment? Had she really thought that Stone shouldn't know before hand or was she just worried that he would protest her decision? Stone shut his laptop quickly and stared down at the top of it with what felt like a permanent frown stretched across his face.
