There was something to be said about not eating lunch with the masses.
Shou wasn't entirely sure if he wanted to put such a fine point on it, but the word he would have chosen was preferable. Not that he spent much of the lunch period eating--he had gym right beforehand and he usually stayed after to run a few laps on the track before going into the locker room to shower and change. Only then did he make the treck back outside and into the main building to grab his food from his locker. Then it was back outside again to eat.
Even during the winter he ate outside. If it was raining, he stood beneath the lip of the roof and just watched it fall. He much preferred the elements to any other form of companionship.
Clouds spotted the sky as they had for much of the week, the sun peeking through in areas while other parts of the sky were fathomless and empty. Still scrubbing his wet head with a towel after his shower (hair would never be brushed, though in Japan he was constantly being accused of mussing his hair just because it looked good--the retort to that was always I do it so I won't look like the rest of you), Shou made his way across the primped and trimmed lawn on the lee side of the school, pausing only once to retrieve the towel which had been too enthusiastically dropped a moment before. And in that lieu he looked up and saw a girl climbing from the second story to the roof.
He considered her for a moment, but mostly her method of climbing. He'd noticed the ladder before, of course, but he'd never thought of using it. Not that he was particularly interested now; most memories of rooftops included, early on in life, watching fireworks during the hanami festivals and later, leaving some girl or boy behind after he'd had what he wanted of them. Both of which were rather bitter memories for him, now that he thought back on it.
Pulling the towel around his neck, Shou straightened back up and watched the girl climb for a moment more before calling out (in less than a shout, but certainly loud enough to be heard), "If you're planning on taking off, the gym has a much longer roofspan." He took a step forward and shielded his eyes from the midday glare, "But I don't think the school's insurance covers crash landings."
