Ready And Waiting To Fall
Ever since last night, when Flauros stayed over after letting it be known that he cold-cocked Narcissus, Echo had been in a daze. It started sometime after she ran across her dorm room to leap up and kiss him while declaring him her second-favorite (first non-related) person in the history of ever, and continued even after she woke up to find him gone.
It had taken her longer than usual to get dressed, since she couldn't stop thinking about stuff and things. Thankfully, nobody really noticed because she was pretty flighty to begin with, but it was freaking her out to the point where she spent all of Sokar's class actually concentrating on her classwork and not flirting.
She couldn't figure out what that sensation hammering insistently at the back of her head was, but then as she was walking back to her dorm room after class she caught a glimpse of Narcissus and his glorious black eye rushing to his room it all became clear. Flauros had decked Narcissus after she revealed who Cissy was and what he did to her. While she had no idea how much of a factor that was in Flauros' overall decision to teach Narcy fist-physics, as far as Echo was concerned it was among the nicest thing anyone had ever done for her, even if it wasn't done for her.
As she raised her hand up to give the little pretty-boy a wave hello, she smiled softly at the realization that she not only felt like someone other than her brother really cared about her feelings (and siblings are pretty much obligated to so...) but that she really cared about him as well. She totally had a thing for Flauros, but as a staunch non-believer in love she'd never put a name to her feelings because being married already and having the guy whose rejection killed her around made the idea of being infatuated with anyone seem crazy.
Still, it was nice to spend time with a guy who remembered her birthday, talked to her about things that he found important, and didn't seem to skeeve on other chicks where she could see it. Why was she still married to Sokar anyway? The sex was good, and she did care about him, but was it worth reinforcing the lacking self-confidence that had been nagging at her self-conscious ever since Narcissus revealed himself? No, it wasn't worth that. All these thoughts, heavy and disjointed as they were, just cemented Echo's need to speak with Set. He would know how she should handle everything. In the meantime, she was going to cherish the sight of Narcissus' messed up face for eternity.
Heavy thinking...
