[As a man carrying the burden of a previous lifetime cut painfully short by brashness, stupidity, and pride, it took him a good ten minutes of internal warring to come to the decision that panicking - or constructing homemade explosives - wasn't going to solve much of anything once the darkness hit. Rather, his first concern had been to contact his wife, tell her something cruel and unusual had occurred at the campus, and to pass along his love to India. She wasn't here with him this weekend, and for that he could count his blessings. He immediately phoned Cal at the Wellness Center and other professors, quickly reaching the conclusion that, yes, there were threatening creatures, but no, they were not deadly.
It was then he read Grace's panicked message on the boards and knew exactly what needed to be done. He didn't care that these creatures were not hostile - she was afraid and she was alone and like hell he was going to leave her by herself. Some comfort was brought in hearing that a young man was coming by her house to help escort her to the Wellness Center, but by all appearances it didn't seem like she knew the kid well. And for all Wes knew, he could turn into another threat. Wes also remained in contact with Alexei, who had gone to the Wellness Center, too, to help and snark at the silly, accident-prone people who would most assuredly come filing in. He never questioned for a moment if his Russian friend would be alright - he was damn near unflappable, and if anything was going to upset him, this certainly wasn't going to be it.
Upon reaching Grace's home, Wes trotted up and rang the doorbell (it made more sense than opening the door and spooking her - really, what sort of monster rings a doorbell?) and once inside, held her tight for a second and promised her things would be alright. The kid - Jack - received a couple overprotective glances from the Icarus incarnate, but was sincerely thanked. Things went smoothly from that point on. Wes drove with Grace and Jack to the Center, where the boy eventually parted ways with them. But Wes stayed, not only to keep an eye on Grace, but to help her, Alexei, and Cal in whatever ways he could (which weren't many, but if it caused them frustration they didn't say it to his face). He even brought Rowan in, and got to share in the confusion of applying ointment and binding broken limbs.
Time passed both slowly and at record speeds and before he knew it, he was getting an email from his daughter wishing him Happy Father's Day. He smiled, though with traces of sadness and longing, and responded that he loved her more than anything in the world and told her to remember to call her grandfather to wish him the same. While he didn't regret his decisions, he really wouldn't have minded that eighth tie right about now.]
Taking a moment to send a Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. Can't say today isn't going to be a memorable one.
And to repeat what several of the other professors and staff have already said: the Wellness Center is not only a secure location, but is available if you are in need of medical attention. It's been graciously assisted by both faculty and students, but if there are others further willing to help, please come to us.
If anyone needs to be taken to either the Center or one of the other safe locations, please contact me and tell me where you are. I'll come get you.
