Woods of Ypres released their final full-length on April of this year. I've had the album since then, but have only listened to it three times. Not because the album isn't good, it's more because the album transcends the borders of creepy, and haunting, and enters into another realm of darkness altogether.
The lead vocalist, David Gold, passed away in December of 2011. He was killed in a car accident. The final album the band released sounds hauntingly prophetic, almost like a voice from the grave speaking out, and the lyrics read like they were written by someone who just knew he was going to die, but didn't want his friends and family to mourn. (See Adora Vivos for example.)
Most haunting of all, however, is the video they released in August of 2011 for the song "I Was Buried In Mount Pleasant Cemetery". A video released about four-five months prior to David Gold's death. A video for a song from an album released in 2009.
Tell me it doesn't sound prophetic. How would music sound if all musicians could glimpse into the future, and see their deaths? Would they create one last album centered around their death? Would they tell their family and friends not to mourn for them?
