Montenegro University -- Day [entries|friends|calendar]

college town grad law med military
I'd like to turn to a type of song that people like myself find ourselves subjected to with increasing frequency as time goes on, and that is the college alma mater. You'll find yourself at a reunion of grads, and old undergrads, and eh... somebody will start croaking out one of these things and everyone will gradually join in -- each in his own key, of course -- until the place is just soggy with nostalgia. Well, a typical such song might be called Bright College Days, and might go like this. Bright college days, O carefree days that fly, To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high. Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered halls. Turn on the spigot, pour the beer and swig it, and gaudeamus igit-ur. Here's to parties we tossed, To the games that we lost, We shall claim that we won them some day. To the girls young and sweet, To the spacious back seat of our beat up Chevrolet.

[10 Sep 2012|06:52am]
I literally have no words for what happened. I keep trying to find some but, for the most part, I think I'd have to go with something I hear my students say "I can't even". The damage done to my home was thankfully not as bad as other areas in town. The boys and I have been doing whatever we can to help neighbors and businesses that weren't so lucky.

[Filter: Wes]
Thank you, yet again, for coming to the rescue.

[FILTER: Heracles, Sekhmet]
Thanks again for coming out and saving us. We'd all like to do something for you in return, so if you guys ever find yourselves wanting to rent a theater out for a private party or whatever - it's on us. Nothing big, probably not even useful, but it's the only thing we could think of.

[FILTER: Chang'e]
Can I stay with you for the next couple of days?

[10 Sep 2012|07:41am]
I must say I rather enjoyed our Labor Day weekend. I have high expectations for our Winter Holiday break now. Feel free to suppose with me what those expectations might entail. For those of you taking my class, you can consider it pre-semester extra credit. Imagination is key.

[FILTERED FROM ADMIN, FACULTY AND THE LIKE.]
Fuck. That was all, like, really really shitty. I'm still all fucking angry about it. Ugh, like, how was any of that even okay? How were they able to, y'know, justify all of that stupid fucking dumbassery in their heads? Whatever. They're the ignorant jerks who have to cope with having attacked a bunch of innocent people.

And I'm the badass chick demanding capes, drinks and [...] stuff. Who wants to go on a mind-altered adventure with me? I promise I won't get lost this time. Sorry Jon

[ mood | cranky ]

I've got a dilemma, and I need someone smart or with medical knowledge to solve a problem for me. I've got a nasty headache, and I'm not sure what I can take for it. I've got ibuprofen and acetaminophen, so which is safe? I wouldn't want to die so soon after getting back on my feet, you know?

[MMA]
Doctor says I have to avoid strenuous activity for at least a month thanks to these fucking headaches. Sorry. I'll find some way to be useful. Here's hoping you all ended up in better condition than I did.

[JUDE]
How you holding up?

[ADAM/BETHANY/CYRUS/CAIN/JAKE/JAMES/JAZZ/LOKI/MORRIS/TOURMALINE (separate filters)]
How'd you end up making out?

[JON]
Hey, this is kinda awkward, but I miss you had a dream about you ended up mentioning that we used to date to that Eric kid. Publicly. But uh, I said nice shit about your hair, so I wanted you to know that I meant it, even if it was sappy and I was drunk. Yeah... anyway, hope you're alright.

[REEVE]
You wanna go see a movie or something? I'm bored.

Izanami is frustrated [10 Sep 2012|05:48pm]
What I would say is the most frustrating aspect of the riots is not the violence or the vitriol, though they are frightening by themselves, but the ignorance. Representative Jackson's words had nothing to do with science or reason and everything to do with the same old fear-mongering and righteousness of those in power.

I would suggest all politicians take a look at their words, compare the speeches they give about incarnates to other groups we've discriminated against and examine how few differences there are in the rhetoric.

In order to understand prejudice, we have to study people. One way researchers today are doing just that is through Project Implicit.

"Project Implicit represents a collaborative research effort between researchers at Harvard University, the University of Virginia, and University of Washington. While the particular purposes of each study vary considerably, most studies available at Project Implicit examine thoughts and feelings that exist either outside of conscious awareness or outside of conscious control. The primary goals of Project Implicit are to provide a safe, secure, and well-designed virtual environment to investigate psychological issues and, at the same time, provide visitors and participants with an experience that is both educational and engaging."

One test you could take in order to identify your preferences is focused on the 2012 Presidential Election. The interpretations this survey makes about your answers may surprise you.

I had a lovely time at Rasika. I hope you like the gift card to Muddy Waters Coffee - it was a last-minute gift, but hopefully you can find yourself a little something there.

[10 Sep 2012|06:02pm]
The best advice I can give this time is, as stolen from the great mind of Benjamin Quinn, "Listen to more Celine Dion". While no promises can be made for how this absurdity might help or hinder your healing process, it has always worked its strange magic for me and, as such, I figured sharing it would do no harm. Regardless, we ought to be quite glad that we have survived that ordeal without any deaths and I urge anyone who might have been harmed during to nurse their wounds (physical, mental, emotional) accordingly - no good will come of exasperating circumstances.

[ATAHENSIC, HALPHAS, HARMONIA, HEDONE, HORUS, ICARUS & OSIRIS.]
In the effort of moving past this nonsense, I would like to arrange for a dinner within the near future. Perhaps a celebratory dinner - success to us(!) - for either having survived that nonsense or for the clearly bright future ahead of us. Whatever excuse best suits your fancy I do not particularly care, but I would hope that all of you will be present.

[HALPHAS.]
How much trouble did you get into this time?

[OSIRIS.]
It's been some time, dear brother of mine. Do come over sometime sooner for tea? My schedule is still rather hectic, but I'm sure I could arrange it regardless for you.

[10 Sep 2012|06:19pm]
Just going to leave this here. As well as this.

[APOLLO & MEDEA.]
Dinner. Normal, at a restaurant, in our best shoes and pinkies up dinner.

I've been invited to direct the Playhouse's Winter production.

[HALPHAS.]
You work with guns, correct?

down, boy )

I think I just died a little.

[JAKE]
Hey, twat. Riley's feeling shitty, so I invited her over. If you don't want her around or something, I'll just take her somewhere. Whatever.

[SIF]
I have made some very inappropriate remarks about-

Can I get a hug? :D

tenth. ♘ [10 Sep 2012|09:50pm]

I feel real fortunate that my place was out of the way of most of the protesters, but I know a lot of houses and stores got damaged in the riots, so... if anyone needs anything, I'll come help.

I thought about painting my hallway walls next weekend, but then I thought, if someone moves in with me and hates the color... well, I was gonna ask anyway. Is anyone looking for a place? I'm down on Blackburn.

Will you help me pick out a cat at the shelter tomorrow?

Who would have thought that a single speech would change the situation so rapidly?

[Filter: Sean Halden]

Are you alright? I haven't heard from you and am starting to worry. Call me when you get the chance.

[Filter: Egyptians]

I don't think I have outed myself by now, so to speak, and the moment certainly is not the best for an outing, but I will take the chance to introduce myself properly to you. I am Gisèle Halden, but I am also Nephthys, sister to Isis, Osiris and Set. I wonder if any of my siblings are here.
