I'd like to turn to a type of song that people like myself find ourselves subjected to with increasing frequency as time goes on, and that is the college alma mater. You'll find yourself at a reunion of grads, and old undergrads, and eh... somebody will start croaking out one of these things and everyone will gradually join in -- each in his own key, of course -- until the place is just soggy with nostalgia. Well, a typical such song might be called Bright College Days, and might go like this. Bright college days, O carefree days that fly, To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high. Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered halls. Turn on the spigot, pour the beer and swig it, and gaudeamus igit-ur. I got a dog! I didn't get the one I posted previously, but I have this guy. I call him Yukio. He's already made himself at home in the kitchen, my bathroom rug... But that's okay. I still love him, especially his eyes.

I don't have any other news to share except: Be smart, everyone. The warmer it is, the more trouble people seem to get into, so be careful. You don't want to spend the most of the summer stuck in a cast or worse.

It's nearly April, and as one of my students reminded me that means we're getting closer to summer. Hearing people measure time in seasons always makes me wonder how the passage of time was marked before we had names for such things, but that's neither here nor there. What's of greater concern to me is that next week I'll be expecting the papers I assigned during my lecture on cognitive bias back, and certain students need a good grade on this paper if they hope to pass my class.

Cognitive bias is a funny thing; I'm hoping that in assigning the paper it will allow my students to realize where their own biases lie, but I'm not expecting much. Perhaps someone will surprise me.

Is anyone else kind of excited for the new Avengers movie?

...The Hulk is probably one of my favorite comic book characters. And I've got some stupid fondness for Captain America.

But...I haven't seen a good movie in a while. Maybe this might be tolerable.
