I'd like to turn to a type of song that people like myself find ourselves subjected to with increasing frequency as time goes on, and that is the college alma mater. You'll find yourself at a reunion of grads, and old undergrads, and eh... somebody will start croaking out one of these things and everyone will gradually join in -- each in his own key, of course -- until the place is just soggy with nostalgia. Well, a typical such song might be called Bright College Days, and might go like this. Bright college days, O carefree days that fly, To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high. Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered halls. Turn on the spigot, pour the beer and swig it, and gaudeamus igit-ur. I've been doing a lot of thinking, and this song is really resonating with me at the moment... The lyrics are powerful, and a little sad, huh?

I have a conference to attend at my alma mater, Harvard University. Having been invited to speak, I will not be in class for the rest of this week.

I suppose this is my way of saying class is canceled. An e-mail will be sent out shortly. Have a good week.

As today is National Pie Day, I left two pies (apple and peach) in the common rooms of the dorms, and I dropped off a tray of fruit tarts (mini pies!) to the Wellness Center. For those of you who cannot process gluten, I also made a gluten-free pie as well.

Some people post the most beautiful writing & I get the impression it's just how they write normally. Has anyone ever thought of having a writing competition or a literary magazine? I'd be hopeless myself but I know there are literary minds that would do it justice! And I'd really love to complement writing with photos (and I know there are people who also would love that too)!
