I'd like to turn to a type of song that people like myself find ourselves subjected to with increasing frequency as time goes on, and that is the college alma mater. You'll find yourself at a reunion of grads, and old undergrads, and eh... somebody will start croaking out one of these things and everyone will gradually join in -- each in his own key, of course -- until the place is just soggy with nostalgia. Well, a typical such song might be called Bright College Days, and might go like this. Bright college days, O carefree days that fly, To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high. Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered halls. Turn on the spigot, pour the beer and swig it, and gaudeamus igit-ur. Here's to parties we tossed, To the games that we lost, We shall claim that we won them some day. To the girls young and sweet, To the spacious back seat of our beat up Chevrolet.

[ mood | calm ]

Is there much of anything more calming than cooking? I can't think there is...

I went on a bit of a baking spree last night, I do that when I'm frustrated, and the results seem to have gone over well with my classmates in my Introduction to Baking and Pastry course. I do have some leftovers though, if anyone is interested in trying some banana walnut bread or apple cinnamon bread do let me know. Whatever I can't give away I'll bring to knitting club tonight.

I apologize for not updating here very regularly but my days have been very busy between classes and archery practice. I added another class to my schedule, Philosophy it would have been rude for me not to when the professor himself recommended it which has been very interesting so far.

Being busy keeps me from missing home though. Being here over the holidays, it was hard not to be homesick but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I am looking forward to the rest of the term though, at least.

One of my fellows in the department will be holding an open lecture next Thursday. It is called, "The Philosophy of Death." The following is the description we've published on the philosophy department website:
There is one thing I can be sure of: I am going to die. But what am I to make of that fact? The possibility that death may not actually be the end is considered. Are we, in some sense, immortal? Would immortality be desirable? Professor David Keagan examines these questions in a philosophical context, arguing for both ends and inviting attendees to a coffee-and-cookies open discussion after the lecture. Held in the Loehler Auditorium, 7 PM, on January 19.

Happy Friday the Thirteenth, everyone! Okay, to offset the inevitable bad days, I have something fun to show you guys. (And for my something bad: today I was thirty minutes late to my first section and all those kids were pretty pissed when I showed up. Whoops. Guess no one told the freshman they can leave if it takes me more than fifteen minutes.)

Oh gosh, after rewatching that, maybe that wasn't a good idea. Sorry for the tears, keyboard.

Hey there, you.

Would it bother you too much if I stayed with you and Zayn for a little while?
Er. It's really best if my roommate doesn't see me for a while...he might like, hit me again, and I've had enough of that.

I promise I won't bother you or anything.~
