Climbing to the roof of her apartment building, Blythe darted across the rooftops. This time she donned a hoodie she stole from Zack's closet - her wounds from the night before were still sore, her face blue and her neck purple. And if anything would make this situation worse, it would be her assailants from the night before recognizing her on top of trying to get Tanner away from his assailants. She lept across the crevice of the alley onto the roof of the laundromat just in time to view Tanner's last burst of energy as he sprinted down the alley. Within breaths, she was at the top of the ladder, spinning her body over it. She was completely pumped on adrenaline as she slid down the ladder rather than taking it by the rungs.
Her feet slammed into the concrete and she bolted over to him, catching him just as his legs gave out from under him. Gods, what had these people done to him? These monsters? She had to get him out of here immediately - but the ladder wasn't an option in his condition. She would have to find another way out.
"I've got you." She whispered comfortingly, wrapping her arms around Tanner, her eyes fastened on the mouth of the alleyway. She had to get him out of view before they came back. Thinking quickly, Blythe began moving Tanner away to the back of the building, where folded carboard boxes lined the wall. She placed him down as gently as she could and crouched beside him, brushing away his bloody hair from his forehead, worriedly checking the wound. "Tanner? Tanner? I'm going to find a way out of here. They can't get to you back here without passing me; you're safe now. But you need to listen to me - listen, listen - if you see them coming, cover your ears. As tightly as you can, you cover them."
With her hoarse voice already prompted for her ability, her cell phone in her jean pocket, and a kitchen knife in the other pocket, she wasn't going to let anything more happen to either of them.
