Izzy's encounter (if you want to be so tame and call it that) with Ezra and Cooper left her with questions needing answers. She didn't bother with the public library because the books she needed were not exactly the sort the PTA would be over the moon about having possibly available to their kids. Twilight was still banned by some libraries, and compared to what she was dealing it, that book was the equivalent of Caillou or chemical castration. She had to hit up her next best possibility and that meant going to the bookstore. If she was lucky, they were the sort to sell used books. Old books. And if she was really lucky, she'd find a newer book that wasn't a complete waste of time. She stopped by the coffee shop to grab herself a mocha. Izzy would need the energy because she was going to do something she hated more than Geometry: heavy reading. It was hard to be inconspicuous when it was clear Izzy wasn't the library type of girl. She pushed the door open to the shop and stepped in, cell phone in hand and glancing around. The place reeked of books. It reminded her of all the books Ms. Price had in her arsenal. What Izzy would kill to get her hands on those things now. Oh, and to know Latin and Greek and Arabic and whatever else her books were written in. Hard to imagine a time when English wasn't the dominant language in the world. It looked like Saturday was a good day for people to go buying books though, and so there were a few other patrons. Good. It meant she could go sniffing around for something that might be useful without some clerk breathing down her neck. If only the place was more organized because she she came into an aisle, she was starting to see a new dilemma arise. She had no idea how actual libraries worked. She could Google the hell out of something, but this? Fuuuuck. She glanced at her cell phone. Izzy could always do this another day. Maybe she could text Joel, see if he was down for going to get pho today. Bt it was almost noon and their window of opportunity to bail was too small to really enjoy their promises of hanging out. Another day. Another weekend. Ezra was still out there, and she'd broken Cooper's leg. She also had been stupid and when she saw them in school, she smiled and even blew a kiss. Izzy really needed to work on that. "Okay," she steadied herself in front of a shelf, "Books on . . . dead things." |
